Jolie initially sought full custody of their children after an incident on a private jet returning to Los Angeles from France. The movie explores life under the Khmer Rouge regime through the perspective of a child. Accompanying her were her children, including Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Maddox, who was adopted from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002, holds a special connection to the country where Jolie had previously worked on the film Tomb Raider.
